Half Term Family Activities – May 2019

May Half Term Family Activities in the Lake District

May half term is not far away, and we still have some activity availability left, so why not come along and make some amazing memories!

Sadly these school holidays are now over so we will no longer update this post BUT there are still plenty of great outdoor activity opportunities. You can like us on Facebook to keep posted with special days in the diary as we post these as events and you can always check any dates on our online booking service

Saturday 25th May       Full Day, AM & PM activity availability.
Choose from our range of activities. Do all day of the same activity, 2 different ones, or just a morning or afternoon. The choice is yours!

Sunday 26th May         AM Raft Building at Brown Howe – Min age 8 (4 spaces available).
Raft Building is a ½ day activity (i.e. a morning or an afternoon) that takes place on a lake – we usually use Coniston Water.  We provide wetsuits, buoyancy aids and all the equipment required to create a raft(s) and test its prowess on the water through races, tugs of war etc.  It is great fun!

Monday 27th May       AM Swallows and Amazons Canoeing at Brown Howe – Min age 6 (5 spaces available).
During our Swallows and Amazons adventure day we explore the lake taking a journey from the beach which is situated next to a beautiful field that is featured in the Swallows and Amazons film. We also visit Peel Island (Wildcat Island in the books) on the way for a break/lunch and a hot drink, and sometimes play a game or two. From Peel Island, we can raft the boats together and, if the weather is favourable, hoist a sail – this can be either a very relaxing way to travel, or incredibly exhilarating if the wind is out to play, but it is still something that everyone can be involved in.

AM Archery at Lowick Old School – Min age 6 (8 spaces available)
Our archery sessions take place at our base in Lowick Green.  They are great fun, giving you the chance to learn how to shoot and improve in this great sport.  We use recurve and compound bows, traditional scoring, fun games and group competitions over a range of distances on our archery range, which also boasts views of the Old Man of Coniston.

Tuesday 28th May       AM Rock Climbing at Whitestones – Min age 6 (5 spaces available)
Rock Climbing gives you the opportunity to experience climbing on rock, developing your confidence and technique through a series of short climbs at a great local crag that also has a beautiful setting.

Wednesday 29th May   PM activity availability.

Sunday 2nd June          Full day Esk Valley Gorge Walk – Min age 12 (6 spaces available)
The full day Gorge Walk in the Esk valley provides a fabulous playground of rocks, waterfalls and pools that can simply be enjoyed for hours.  The start point is at the bottom of Hardknott Pass at around 10am, and the day begins with an hour’s walk up the valley to get to the main gorge section of the river for serious playtime and a spot of lunch in a very beautiful location, before the walk back to the cars for around 4.30pm.  This day is one of our favourites – stunning scenery, remote location, fantastic jumps, pools and there’s even a hidden lagoon.  It is a more strenuous day than our other gorge walks and this is reflected in a minimum age of 14 years old.

Tuesday 4th June                AM Gorge Walking – Tilberthwaite – Min age 6 (5 spaces available)
Our Gorge Walks take you up a steep sided beck and involve walking in the path of the water and scrambling over rocks with the options of jumping into pools and climbing up and swimming under waterfalls. You will definitely have lots of fun and can get very wet.

Wednesday 5th June         AM Canoeing at Brown Howe – Min age 5 (5 spaces available).
We do our canoeing at the south end of Coniston Water and can tailor a session to whichever feel you wish for – a relaxing journey, some canoe-sailing, lots of games, skills instruction, team competition.  Our boats are very stable so they suit all types of people and we would generally try to fit in a visit to Peel Island as part of the session allowing for jumping off the rocks if anyone wants to go for it!

Thursday 6th June            AM Rock Climbing at Whitestones – Min age 6 (5 spaces available)
