Details:

Lakeland Zephyr explores as far south as the Leven Estuary right up to the top of Ullswater. Although a lot of tourists visit the south-east Lake District, most don’t get much further than the Windermere ferry and shops of Bowness. However, this area offers a wide variety of quiet walking terrain, opportunities to canoe a couple of the most important lakes and easy cycling routes to boot. Ullswater then provides quite a contrast with imposing fells surrounding, it’s very impressive but there’s plenty of easy as well as difficult walking options to choose from, including one of the most interesting lakeside paths.

For the first half of the holiday (4 nights), we stay at the 3 star Newby Bridge Hotel, which has great character, looks over Lake Windermere and has fantastic leisure facilities including pool and health spa. Then we transfer to the Glenridding Hotel (also 3 star), on the shores of Ullswater for 3 nights. This also has leisure facilities, easy access to great Lakeland pubs and magnificent views of the lake and surrounding fells.

Full week price: 3* hotel £810 includes 7 nights of dinner. B&B £630 includes dinner on the 1st night. Both prices include bed and breakfast accommodation, packed or picnic lunch each day, 6 days guided walking or other activities and transport to and from each day’s start and finish point, as necessary. Don’t forget, there’s also the use of both hotel’s leisure and spa facilities included in the price.

If you don't want to join the whole week however you can just join part 1 or part 2 and if you wish to sort out your own accommodation then you can just join the activity program. Part 1 is 4 nights and 3 days and Part 2 is 3 nights and 2 days.

Bethecar Moor - At only 322m high, walking up this low peak has the bonus of a view of the whole of Coniston Water and a finish at Ruskin’s home of Brantwood - situated for his favourite view of the Coniston fells.

High Street - Taking a stroll along this old roman road isn’t a walk in the park but with rewards including views of Windermere, Haweswater and the Yorkshire Dales on a clear day, it’s well worth it.
(11 miles or 18 km)

Canoe-Sailing on Windermere - Mid-week the lake is virtually deserted, and with the right wind it’s possible to sail the length of the lake, stopping off on an island for a picnic lunch.

Trail-cycling through Grizedale Forest - starting at the top of the valley, means great views without the uphill strain, followed by an easy journey down the undulating valley and right back to the hotel.
