Sailing Skills Courses in the Lake District

RYA Level 1 and 2 | RYA Seamanship Skills | RYA Day Sailing

River Deep Mountain High provides a range of Dinghy Sailing skills and safety courses in Coniston, South Lake District. The below RDMH courses are all run by highly qualified and friendly RDMH instructors, and include all technical equipment, a certificate and complimentary hot chocolate!

You may need to reach a certain standard to book on to a dinghy sailing skills course, i.e. certain courses follow on from one another.

Below is a brief overview of each of the sailing courses - please contact us to arrange course dates.

Dinghy Sailing RYA Level 1 and Level 2 Course

We have availability for you all to learn to sail properly, so that you can either hire out, or buy your own boat to enjoy independently. We can run a sailing course which would give you all a great opportunity to obtain RYA Level 1 and 2 as well as learning valuable Seamanship Skills along the way.

Our Sailing Courses are run in conjunction with a local RYA centre on Coniston water. Learning to sail in the Lake District is particularly convenient with fresh water venues and stunning scenery. The boats usually used are the 20ft hawks and the 16ft wayfarers (double handers, for Level 2). It can be arranged for you to do a single hander Level 2 course in toppers, lasers and picos by prior arrangement.

Within the course you will be given excellent tuition but also the opportunity to enjoy a sailing journey to put your newly learnt skills to good use!

The course runs for a period of 3 days and costs £350 per person including instruction, equipment, VAT, RYA log books and certificates and hot drinks. Lunches can be added as an extra cost.

RYA Sailing Level 1-2+

Monday 2nd April - Thursday 5th April 2012

We will start with Level 1 on the Monday and continue on from there. If you already have Level 1, you can join from Tuesday onwards. Book for 2, 3 or 4 days - the more you do the more you'll learn. To get Level 1 and 2 would require at least 3 days. Once participants have mastered Level 2, any remaining time will start into Level 3, Seamanship skills and/or Racing!

Prices per person: 2 days £250, 3 days £350, 4 days £400

RYA Seamanship Skills

Having completed your RYA Level 2, you can then progress on to doing your Seamanship skills which will allow you to handle a wide range of sailing situations.

This course will cover launching and recovering your Dinghy Sailing boat in different circumstances, stopping, reducing sail, recovering a man overboard and anchoring.

Our Sailing Courses are run in conjunction with a local RYA centre on Coniston water. Learning to sail in the Lake District is particularly convenient with fresh water venues and stunning scenery.

This course runs for a period of 2 days and costs £250 per person including instruction, equipment, VAT, RYA log books and certificates and hot drinks. Lunches can be added as an extra cost.

RYA Day Sailing

After gaining a bit more experience and skills between completing your RYA Level 2, and preferably completing your Seamanship Skills you can progress on to completing your Day Sailing Course.

This course will consider and improve your sailing decision making by asking you to prepare and plan for a day cruise. You will also cover pilotage and decision making including adverse conditions.
