Directions to Wainwrights Inn (LA22 9JD), Chapel Stile
From the M6 via Ambleside
Either go down the M6 to junction 40. Turn right onto the A66 and follow until Windermere A591
is signposted to the left, just before Keswick. Follow the A591 all the way into and through
Ambleside. As you come out of the shops there is a BP petrol station and the road splits into 2
lanes, follow the right hand lane and turn right, signposted to Coniston A593.
Or leave the M6 at junction 36 and follow the A590/591 past Windermere to Ambleside.
From Ambleside take the A593 towards Langdale and Coniston. Turn right at Skelwith Bridge towards Langdale along the B5343. Go along this road, past the Langdale Estate and Wainwrights is on your left. We will meet you in the pub car park.
From the South A590, Newby Bridge and Coniston
Turn off the A590 at Greenodd signposted Workington, Greenodd and Coniston and follow the A5092 for 2 miles, until right turn signposted Coniston A5084. After 6.1 miles turn right at the T-junction onto the A593 (to Coniston). Continue on this road in into and through Coniston. From west Cumbria
Head out of Ravenglass to the A595. Turn left towards Whitehaven. Follow the road for about 3 miles and then take the right turn towards Santon Bridge. At the end of the road turn right and follow through Eskdale Green. After going through Eskdale Green and past the Outward Bound Centre, you go down a hill with a pub at the bottom. Go left here towards Boot and Hardknott pass. Continue along this road which takes you, eventually, up and over Hardknott Pass and then Wrynose Pass. These are very steep and windy (protocol is to stop for people when you’re driving up) and so quite good fun as well! After Wrynose pass continue on the road through the village of Little Langdale until you reach a T-junction. Turn left at the T-junction and follow through Elterwater to another T-junction. Turn left again and Wainwrights Inn is about a mile further on the left. Park in the car park behind.
