Directions to Hodge Close (LA21 8DJ)

From the M6 (North) via Ambleside, A593

Go down the M6 to junction 40. Turn right onto the A66 and follow until Windermere A591 is signposted to the left, just before Keswick. Follow the A591 all the way into and through Ambleside. As you come out of the shops there is a BP petrol station and the road splits into 2 lanes, follow the right hand lane and turn right, signposted to Coniston A593. Leave Ambleside on the A593 to Coniston. After about 6 miles you will go past a small tarn next to the road, then Yew Tree farm a little way after and then Hodge Close is signposted to the right. This is a narrow twisty road which you need to follow right up the hill until you come out of the trees and there is parking areas on the left marked by large boulders.

From the M6 (South) via A590, and Newby Bridge and Coniston

From the M6 follow the A590 to Barrow. Keep on the A590 until you see the sign for the A5092 to Workington, Whitehaven and The Western Lake District at Greenodd. Turn right onto this road – past the Esso garage. After about 2 miles, take the A5084 to Coniston. After 6 miles you will reach a T-junction in Torver. Turn right to Coniston. Follow this road into and through Coniston and for a mile or two out the other side. Go past the first left turn marked Tilberthwaite and take the next left turn signposted Hodge Close only. This is a narrow twisty road which you need to follow right up the hill until you come out of the trees and there is parking areas on the left marked by large boulders.

From Hawkeshead

From the Main Car Park in the centre of Hawkshead turn left and take the B5286 north towards Ambleside. Just after leaving Hawkshead take the B5285 left towards Hawkshead Hill and Coniston. When you get into Coniston take the A593 North out of Coniston (right at the T-junction), and follow this for a mile or two. Go past the first left turn marked Tilberthwaite and take the next left turn signposted Hodge Close only.
