Directions to Gatehouse Beach (LA12 8DW)
From the South M6 by A590
Exit the M6 at Junction 36 and take the first exit on the roundabout on to the A590. After 3.3 miles on the A590 take the slip/exit road towards the A590 (the road you have now left becomes the A591 to Kendal)
At the roundabout take the first exit on to the A590 (signed to Newby Bridge and Barrow - amongst others). After about 17 miles (after Newby Bridge and Haverthwaite) turn right, off the A590 at Greenodd signposted Workington, Greenodd and Coniston and follow the A5092 for 2 miles, until right turn signposted Coniston A5084. Follow for 4 miles during which you will pass over 1 cattle grid and the Crake Valley Holiday Park. The road then enters a wooded area, about 100m into the woods turn into a drive on the right alongside a small house called Copper Beech Lodge. (if you get to a second cattle grid you've missed it) Go down the drive keeping left at each fork in the track, until you reach a gate saying 'Private - Langdale Estate'. Go through the gate and park on the left before walking further down the drive to the lake.
From the North via Ambleside, A593 and Coniston
Go down the M6 to junction 40. Turn right onto the A66 and follow until Windermere A591 is signposted to the left, just before Keswick. Follow the A591 all the way into and through Ambleside. As you come out of the shops there is a BP petrol station and the road splits into 2 lanes, follow the right hand lane and turn right, signposted to Coniston A593. Leave Ambleside on the A593 to Coniston. On reaching Coniston continue through the village on the A593 towards Torver and Broughton-in-Furness. The lake should be on your left. After approx 2 miles, you will reach Torver. Take the left turn onto the A5084, signposted Lancaster and Greenodd opposite the Wilson Arms pub. Keep going until you go over a cattle grid, then take the 3rd turn on the left down a drive which runs alongside a small house called Copper Beech Lodge. The entrance to the drive is fairly concealed and there is a turning mirror opposite. Go down the drive keeping left at each fork in the track, until you reach a gate saying 'Private - Langdale Estate'. Go through the gate and park on the left before walking further down the drive to the lake.
