From the North

From the M6 follow the A66 west until Windermere A591 is signposted to the left, just before Keswick. Follow the A591 all the way into and through Ambleside, still following signposts for Windermere. As you come to the outskirts of Ambleside you will come to a set of traffic lights just next to The Waterhead Hotel. At this junction you need to turn right, for which there is a little short cut just chopping through the corner. Park in the car park on the right, 50m down the road. This car park is a pay and display car park that costs £4 in coins for ½ a day and £6 for a full day. There could be space just outside the car park to park for free.

From the centre of Ambleside

Leave Ambleside following signposts for Windermere. As you are coming out of Ambleside you will go past Hayes Garden Centre and then come to some traffic lights just next to The Waterhead Hotel. At this junction you need to turn right, for which there is a little short cut just chopping through the corner. Park in the car park on the right, 50m down the road. From Coniston via A593

Follow the A593 out of Coniston to Ambleside. As you first arrive in Ambleside you join a 1-way section of road that will come to a T-junction. Turn right towards Windermere and follow til you come alongside the lake (on your right). The car park is on the left, just after the Wateredge Inn. This car park is a pay and display car park that costs £4 in coins for ½ a day and £6 for a full day. There could be space just outside the car park to park for free.

Directions to the Head of Lake Windermere (NY377032) from the south, A590 via Bowness

Follow the A590 to Newby Bridge and take the exit for A592 to Bowness. Follow the road all the way up the side of Windermere to Bowness. Turn left at the mini-roundabout in Bowness, still following A592 and then left again at the next mini-roundabout, onto the A591 to Ambleside. As you enter Ambleside you will come to a set of traffic lights, take the left fork and park in the car park on the right, 50m down the road.
