Course Details
River Deep Mountain High are offering 6 places on the Outdoor Instructor Training Progression Course running for 2 sessions of 19 weeks each in the Lake District with a two week break at Christmas/New year. Each session runs from October to March in consecutive winters. This is based on the extensive experience of our instructional team led by Senior Instructors Mike and Johan, both of whom have worked in full time permanent jobs in the outdoors for the past 14 years and 10 years respectively. You will also be trained by a set of external outdoor experts, to provide some training assessment courses, this will ensure you are coached and trained by some of the most experienced and qualified technical experts in the outdoor industry, demonstrating a wide variety of leadership and teaching styles and providing a different viewpoint on your progress.
This course is ideal as an alternative to University for those serious about a career in the outdoor industry, wanting to take their first step into the industry and be developed into well-rounded instructors with an excellent range of technical and soft skills.
We believe we are unique in the variety of activities we offer and the lack of travel around the country needed to do all these activities, meaning greater contact time with your Instructor / Coach and good access to log book experience in your free-time. Other than one week in Scotland all activities are within 45 minutes of our base, taking place in both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
The programme is physically demanding and deliberately set over the winter giving more challenging conditions and will help to get a job at the beginning of the 2011 season. If you finish loving the outdoors in these conditions you know you will be fine in the summer.
