Gorge Walks - Wet - Spr/Sum

Recommended kit for Gorge Walks – Wet Gorges – Spring/Summer
Be wearing:

  • Swimwear: Ladies – Swimsuit etc, Men – trunks (best) or shorts
  • A long sleeved top, eg. Fleece, Football shirt
  • Shoes that are OK to get completely wet, eg. Trainers, walking boots, wellies
  • Not open-toed sandals/very thin-soled shoes
  • Thick Socks
    Have with you:
  • Complete change of clothes inc. undies
  • Towel
    We will provide a spray cag(oule), Wetsuit and all technical equipment. (Not footwear).

    Gorge Walks - Wet - Aut/Win

    Recommended kit for Gorge Walks – Autumn/Winter
    Be wearing:

  • Swimwear: Ladies – Swimsuit etc, Men – trunks (best) or shorts
  • 2-3 long sleeved layers/jumper, eg. Fleece
  • 2 pairs of thick socks
  • Shoes that are OK to get completely wet, eg. Trainers, walking boots, wellys
  • Not open-toed sandals/very thin-soled shoes
  • A thin warm hat if you have one
    Have with you:
  • Complete change of clothes inc. undies
  • Towel
    We will provide a spray cag(oule), Wetsuit and all technical equipment (Not footwear)

    Gorge Walks - Upper Esk

    Recommended kit for Gorge Walks – Esk Gorge
    To walk for one hour to the gorge, be wearing:

  • Swimwear: Ladies – Swimsuit etc, Men – trunks (best) or shorts
  • A long sleeved top, eg. Fleece, Football shirt (to get wet)
  • Shoes that are OK to get completely wet, eg. ideally walking boots for ankle support, otherwise Trainers,
  • Not open-toed sandals/very thin-soled shoes
  • Thick Socks/neoprene socks
  • If possible bring your own 55 litre plus rucksack. (Please confirm if you can bring your own)
    Have with you:
  • Complete change of clothes inc. undies and shoes
  • Spare Fleece/Jumper to walk out of the valley
  • Towel
    We will provide a spray cag(oule), Wetsuit and all technical equipment. (Not footwear).

    Gorge Walks - Scramble based

    Recommended kit for Gorge Walks – Scrambling based (No wetsuits) – Spring/Summer

  • Swimwear: Ladies – Swimsuit etc, Men – trunks or shorts
  • Tracksuit bottoms and preferably Waterproof trousers
  • A long sleeved top, eg. Fleece, Football shirt
  • Shoes that are OK to get completely wet, eg. Trainers, walking boots, wellys
  • Not open-toed sandals/very thin-soled shoes
  • Complete change of clothes inc. undies
  • Towel
    We will provide a spray cag(oule) and all technical equipment. (Not footwear).

    Canoeing - Spr/Sum

    Recommended kit for Canoeing/Canoe Sailing – Spring / Summer

  • Layers of upper body clothing eg. A long sleeved top, fleece, base layer + spare
  • *Waterproof jacket/cagoule (with taped seams)
  • Tracksuit bottoms/walking trousers and/or shorts
  • *Waterproof trousers
  • Not Jeans/heavy cotton trousers (shorts and waterproof trousers are better)
  • Shoes that are OK to get wet eg. Wellys, trainers, sports sandals. Not flip flops
  • Sun cream and cap/hat
    Optional – for jumping off rocks/swimming:
  • Complete change of clothes inc. undies
  • Towel
    *Breathable waterproofs can be provided if arranged in advance.

    Canoeing - Aut/Win

    Recommended kit for Canoeing/Canoe Sailing – Autumn/Winter

  • 3-4 Layers of upper body clothing eg. A t-shirt, a long sleeved top, a fleece
  • *Waterproof jacket/cagoule (with taped seams)
  • Tracksuit bottoms/walking trousers
  • *Waterproof trousers
  • 2 pairs of socks
  • Shoes that are OK to get wet eg. Wellys, trainers
  • a warm hat and gloves (washing up gloves over thin woolen gloves are excellent)
  • you may appreciate having thermal leggings on
    *Breathable waterproofs can be provided if arranged in advance.

    Rock Climbing/Abseiling - Spr/Sum

    Recommended kit for Walking / Climbing/Abseiling

  • Layers of upper body clothing eg. A long sleeved top, fleece, base layer, + spare
  • *Waterproof jacket/cagoule (with taped seams)
  • Tracksuit bottoms/walking trousers and/or shorts
  • *Waterproof trousers
  • Not Jeans/heavy cotton trousers (shorts and waterproof trousers are better)
  • Trainers/walking boots/climbing shoes
  • Sun cream
  • Hat and gloves
    *Breathable waterproofs can be provided if arranged in advance.

    Mountain Biking - Spr/Sum

    Recommended kit for Cycling – Spring/Summer

  • Shorts, Tracksuit bottoms or walking trousers, any thing that will not be caught in the pedals else we will tape it.
  • A long sleeved top, eg. Base layer (football shirt material) or fleece (not cotton)
  • Trainers, or soft ankle walking boots
  • Spare jumper to take with you, and hat
  • Gloves & Sunglasses to protect your eyes & hands
  • Water bottle if you have one.
  • Any other cycling equipment you would like to use of your own

  • Cycling tights, tracksuit bottoms or walking trousers, any thing that will not be caught in the gears else we will tape it.
  • 2-3 layers, eg. Base layer, fleece (not cotton)
  • Trainers, or soft ankle walking boots
  • Spare jumper to take with you, and hat
  • Gloves & Sunglasses to protect your eyes & hands
  • Water bottle if you have one.
  • Any other cycling equipment eg padded shorts, you would like to use of your own.

    Recommended kit for Kayaking, Dinghy sailing
    Be wearing:

  • Swimwear: Ladies – Swimsuit etc, Men – trunks (best) or shorts
  • A long sleeved top, eg. Base layer (football shirt) or fleece (not cotton) + Spare jumper/ fleece
  • Shoes that are OK to get completely wet eg. Trainers.
  • 2 pairs of socks
  • Not flip flops
    Have with you:
  • Complete change of clothes inc. undies
  • Towel
  • Hat and gloves for during any breaks

  • A long sleeved top, eg. Fleece, Football shirt
  • Shoes that are OK to get completely wet eg. Trainers, walking boots, wellies
  • Not open-toed sandals
  • Thick Socks
    Have with you:
  • Complete change of clothes inc. undies
  • Towel
    We will provide a spray cag(oule), Wetsuit and all technical equipment. (Not footwear).

    Full Week

    We recommend you bring

  • Thermals, T-shirts and long sleeved jumpers, eg. Fleeces, you may need one or two layers that are OK to get wet
  • Walking trousers, tracksuit bottoms – not jeans or heavy cotton
  • Shorts
  • Cycling shorts
  • Lots of spare socks including some thick ones
  • Walking boots (If these are new, we recommend ‘wearing them in’ around the house/on short walks before the holiday).
  • Trainers (these may get wet at times)
  • A sun & woolly hat
  • Swimwear – for men: trunks (best) or shorts
  • Towel
  • Rucksack 20-45 litres
  • Rucksack liner or garden/rubble sacs
  • Suncream (just in case!)
  • Lunch box
  • Drinks bottle ~1 litre or 2 x 500ml
  • Insect Repellent

    Additional items to consider
  • Walking poles
  • Sit mat
  • Binoculars
  • Gaiters
  • You may want to bring your camera but we’ll take lots of photos and videos over the week which you can purchase on CD.

    If there is anything you don’t have, we may be able to arrange hire of it, or can certainly arrange purchase at a quality retailer. We are also happy to advise on any equipment purchasing.
